Childhood Immunisations and Child Health Surveillance
This clinic is held on a Wednesday afternoon and is run by Sr Muirhead. One of our GPs will vaccinate and carry out a health check of your baby at 8 weeks. Sr Muirhead will give all other vaccinations. Appointments are sent out by the practice for the first immunisation.
For all other child vaccinations SIRS (Scottish Immunisation Recall System) will send out directly to you with a date an appointment time. If you have any queries regarding child vaccination please contact Gillian on 622854.
Women should book an appointment with a practice nurse for their smears as advised at the time of their last smear. The Scottish Cervical Call/Recall System (SCCRS) which was implemented in May 2007 will invite women due for cervical screening for the first time and those due to be recalled, based on the date and result of their last smear.
Health Review Clinics
If you suffer from one or more chronic disease i.e. asthma, COPD, diabetes or coronary heart disease, you will be invited to attend for a health review with Sister Conway or Sister Muirhead. This will involve a 20-30 minute appointment. You may also be given an appointment to have blood tests prior to the health review so that the nurse has your results to discuss with you at your appointment. If you are unable to attend either of these appointments it is important that you inform the practice as soon as you can so that the appointment can be offered to another patient.
Electrocardiograms can be done within the surgery, when advised by the doctor.
Our Practice Nurses are available to discuss holiday vaccinations. Please complete a form available from Reception at least 8 weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure there is enough time to provide you with adequate cover. On completion of the form you will be given a telephone consulation to discuss your vaccination requirements.
An influenza vaccination is recommended for patients over 65, diabetics and those with heart, lung or kidney disease as well as carers and residents of nursing and residential homes. Details of flu clinics are available from mid September in the Practice and on our website. If you are unable to attend the surgery, a home visit can be arranged.
The doctors and practice nurse can give advice on all forms of contraception and some of the doctors are trained in the fitting of intra-uterine devices (coils), caps and implants. Emergency contraceptive services are provided.
We are pleased to offer antenatal and postnatal services every Wednesday afternoon from 13:00. A midwife from the Poppy Team from Forth Valley Royal will be in attendance.
Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe a very useful booklet has been published with advice and guidance to help you get the most out of your holiday. To visit please click:- http://ec.europa.eu/publications/booklets/eu_glance/86/en.pdf (this is a large document and may take a minute or two to view)
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and are outlined below. If you are registered with our practice and require a report to be completed, please call Avril Waddell our practice Secretary on 622854 (Option 3) and she will be happy to speak to you. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE THE GP BEFORE DISCUSSING IT WITH AVRIL AS USUALLY THE GP DOES NOT NEED TO SEE YOU TO COMPLETE A REPORT.
